The barristers in our Criminal Team offer substantial experience and ability in all aspects of the criminal law, from the simplest road traffic matter to the most complex commercial fraud.
We are known for our readiness to fight fearlessly on behalf of every defendant, and for striving for the best-possible outcome for anyone accused of a crime. Each member of the Team shares a commitment to human rights, and to ensuring that due process is followed in every case in which we are instructed. We look carefully at the criminal investigations carried out by the prosecuting authorities, to see whether the prosecution can be challenged as unfair, oppressive or an abuse of process.
Whilst we are all specialist advocates, we recognise the increasing importance of written legal submissions and pride ourselves upon the quality of our written work.
We specialise in defending cases involving white collar fraud and financial offences, money laundering, serious drug crimes, serious sexual offences and violent crime, including murder and manslaughter. Our criminal barristers have a proven track record in the defence of accountants, solicitors, civil servants, bankers and other professionals. We are experienced in dealing with cases with a high public profile or of a sensitive and confidential nature. Although based in London, our practitioners travel throughout England and Wales to represent defendants in the Youth and Magistrates Court proceedings and jury trial in the Crown Court.
Each criminal barrister accepts instructions to give legal advice and conduct appeals in the Criminal Division of the Court of Appeal, to challenge conviction or sentencing - especially where we did not conduct the original trial proceedings and things have gone wrong. A number of our members also appear before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council in Commonwealth appeals.
Within the team, individuals have developed expertise in Extradition, Judicial Review and Habeas Corpus, High Court confiscation proceedings, Prison Law, Solicitor’s Disciplinary Tribunal, and other proceedings before professional bodies. We also undertake private prosecution work, prosecuting on behalf of both individuals, companies and Enforcement Agencies.
Details of the reported cases in which Members have been involved may be found on their profile page.
