Standard Contractual Terms


Terms of Business – Members of Thomas More Chambers accept instructions according to the following Contractual Terms.


All work undertaken by barristers from Thomas More Chambers and which is paid by or through an Authorised Person (as such term is defined by Section 18(1)(a) of the Legal Services Act 2007) shall be subject to, and in accordance with:

THE (NEW) STANDARD CONTRACTUAL TERMS FOR THE SUPPLY OF LEGAL SERVICES BY BARRISTERS TO AUTHORISED PERSONS 2012 – (See Rule rC30.9c of the BSB Handbook)

SAVE AND SUBJECT TO
a) the extent the same may be amended or extended in writing by or on behalf of the barrister and notified to the Authorised Person; or b) the parties expressly entering into a contract on alternative terms (see opposite).

In certain circumstances the following alternative contractual terms may be employed, if expressly agreed:

1. Basis A of The General Terms and Conditions for the Supply of Legal Services by Barristers to Solicitors in Commercial Matters Version 2.1, dated 23rd June 2014 as agreed between the Commercial Bar Association and the City of London Law Society – (the COMBAR contract)

2. PIBA STANDARD TERMS & CONDITIONS FOR CFAs FROM 1ST APRIL 2013 (incorporated into the Short Form CFA) (the PIBA 8 Contract)
