PRACTICE
|
A truly old school Common Law Barrister; he excels in all areas. As a leading junior he has conducted trials of length and complexity involving allegations of attempted murder and historical rape. He continues to accept instructions on the Northern Circuit in private family cases involving financial remedy applications where the assets are over £1.5 million and in legal aid cases involving allegations of "baby shaking", sexual and/or other serious physical violence or a hearing estimate of 10 days or more. Described by the actor and former client, Charlotte Lewis (leading lady in the Golden Child), as "amazing" he has experience of dealing with the press, be it broadsheet or tabloid. At the beginning of his career at the Bar he was awarded the Lionel Blundell award by The Honourable Society of Gray's Inn for showing promise at the Bar – an award he has lived up to. He accepts instructions on a Direct Access basis even at a very late stage, recently appearing in the Principal Registry of the Family Division on a Brussels II Revised matter. His work has taken him to Germany on a Courts Martial, the Old Bailey and the Court of Appeal. He is on the Attorney-General’s list of specialist rape prosecution Counsel and recently conducted a private prosecution against the Royal Bank of Scotland alleging the harassment of a debtor, which led to the leading case of Kosar v Bank of Scotland plc. trading as Halifax [2011] All ER (D) 08 (May), Divisional Court. He has a keen interest in cash forfeiture and cyber-harassment.
Crime
He prosecutes and defends all areas of criminal work and has appeared in numerous applications under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. He has seen an increase in privately funded cases particularly involving cash forfeiture. He defends in Courts Martial and can conduct private prosecutions.
Family
All public and private law, including applications for financial remedies, applications under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996, applications under Schedule 1 of the Children Act 1989, international children cases and child abduction.
Civil
Personal injury, including credit hire, harassment (including cyber-harassment), defamation, possession actions on the grounds of antisocial behaviour and rent arrears, applications for antisocial behaviour orders and closure orders. He has an interest in developing his practice to include insolvency/bankruptcy/winding up procedures as he has seen an overlap with his financial relief cases.
